Learn Tarot in German, Straight From the Cards
The German Learning Tarot Deck is a complete 78-card tarot deck where every card explains itself, in German. Pamela Colman Smith's classic 1909 artwork sits at the centre of each card, and around it you read the card's name, one sentence with its core meaning, four upright keywords, four reversed keywords and a question to ask about your own situation. There is no booklet to search through in the middle of a reading: the meaning is in your hand the moment you turn the card over.
Made for German-speaking Beginners
Many tarot decks come with an English booklet, or with no words at all. This deck is written for people who think and read in German: beginners who want to start reading from the first day, students who want to learn the 78 cards faster, and anyone buying tarot as a gift for a German-speaking friend or relative. It also works as a study deck or for teaching others.
Quality You Can Feel
Every card is printed on 300 gsm card stock with a matte protective lamination that protects the surface and keeps it free of glare. The cards are the standard 2.75" x 4.72" (7 x 12 cm) tarot size, and the deck comes in a soft-touch box with a velvety matte finish.

Everything You Need Is on the Card
Every card follows the same layout, so after a few readings you know exactly where to look:
- At the top: the arcana and number, then the card's name in large letters
- Under the name: one sentence with the card's core meaning
- Left of the picture ("Aufrecht"): four keywords for the upright card
- Right of the picture ("Umgekehrt"): four keywords for the reversed card
- At the bottom ("In deiner Frage"): one question that links the card to what you asked
An Example: The Fool
This is what the card Der Narr (The Fool) says:
- Core meaning: "Neugier und wache Aufmerksamkeit öffnen einen neuen Weg und machen den ersten Schritt möglich." (Curiosity and alert attention open a new path and make the first step possible.)
- Upright: Neuanfang, Freiheit, Spontaneität, Vertrauen (new beginning, freedom, spontaneity, trust)
- Reversed: Leichtsinn, Fehlurteil, Zerstreutheit, blindes Vertrauen (recklessness, misjudgement, distraction, blind trust)
- In your question: "Was wird möglich, wenn du neugierig genug bist, einen ersten Schritt zu wagen?" (What becomes possible if you are curious enough to take a first step?)
How to Read With It
Ask your question, draw a card and lay it on the table. Read the sentence under the name first. Then look at the side that matches how the card landed: the left column if it is upright, the right column if it is reversed. Finish with the question at the bottom and answer it for your own situation. The more often you read the text, the sooner you will recognise each card by its picture alone.

Meanings on the Card or in a Booklet?
| Feature | This Learning Deck | Classic Deck With a Booklet |
|---|---|---|
| Where the meanings are | Printed on every card, in German | In a separate booklet |
| During a reading | Glance at the card | Look each card up in the booklet |
| Reversed meanings | Four keywords on every card | Depends on the booklet |
| A question for your situation | One on every card | Not on the card |
| Card faces | The 1909 picture framed by text | The picture only |
| Best for | Learning the 78 cards and reading from day one | Readers who already know the meanings or prefer clean card faces |
If you prefer card faces without any text, our German Edition Borderless Vintage deck has the same 1909 artwork from edge to edge and comes with a printed German guidebook.
Is all the text on the cards in German?
Yes. The card names, the core sentences, the upright and reversed keywords and the questions are all in German. The English titles that sit under the original 1909 pictures have been left out, so the only words on the cards are German.
Is there a guidebook in the box?
No, and you will not need one: the meaning of every card is printed on the card itself. If you want more depth, our free online guide covers all 78 cards.
I have never read tarot. Is this deck right for me?
Yes. It was made for exactly that. You can start the day it arrives: draw a card, read the sentence under its name, check the upright or reversed keywords, and answer the question at the bottom.
Can I read reversed cards with it?
Yes. Every card shows four keywords for the upright position on the left and four for the reversed position on the right.
Which tarot system does it follow?
The classic system based on Pamela Colman Smith's 1909 deck, the system taught in many tarot books and courses: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits.
Is it a good gift for a German-speaking person?
Yes. It needs no translation, no booklet and no experience, and the soft-touch box looks good without extra wrapping. For a present, the Gift Set adds a wooden box and a velvet bag.
