Gold Rainbow Foil Tarot Cards — 1909 Classic Art
Gold foil tarot cards are decks where metallic foil is stamped into the artwork itself, not printed as a gold-coloured ink. We make three of them, $34.99 to $59.99, and because we run the press we can tell you what the foil does after a year rather than on the day it arrives: it stays. The foil layer sits under anti-scratch lamination, so shuffling dulls the card edges long before it dulls the shine.
What foil actually changes
Two things, and only two. The first is light: a foiled line catches a lamp or a candle and throws it back along the line, so the Major Arcana read as drawn rather than as flat blocks of colour. Hold a foiled card at arm’s length and tilt it — the rainbow runs down the linework like water. The second is weight of attention. In a spread of ten cards, the foiled ones are the ones your eye returns to, which is why readers who work with large spreads often keep a foiled deck for client work and a matte deck for their own.
What foil does not change: the meanings, the card count, or how long the deck lasts. A foiled deck is not sturdier than a plain one. If durability is the thing you care about, the honest answer is a laminated plastic deck — those are in plastic tarot cards, not here.
Foil or holographic?
People use the two words interchangeably and they are not the same finish. Foil is metallic and follows the lines of the drawing. Holographic is a diffraction layer laid across the whole card face, so the colour itself shifts as you move; it is a bigger, louder effect and it covers the art rather than tracing it. One of the three decks below, the Holographic Crystal, is both — a foiled 1909 deck with a full diffraction face — which is why it sits in this collection and in holographic tarot cards as well. If you want the difference in photographs before you decide, we wrote it up in foil versus holographic tarot cards, and the long version of this page’s subject is in the gold foil tarot cards guide.
The three foiled decks
Gold Rainbow Foil Tarot Cards — 1909 Classic Art
The 1909 Pamela Colman Smith illustrations with gold rainbow foil on the linework, under anti-scratch lamination. Almost every tarot book and beginner course in English is written around these pictures, so whatever you read about a card describes the card in your hand. $34.99 for the deck and its printed guidebook; up to $59.99 for the set with the box, the reading cloth and the velvet bag.
Moonlight Tarot Cards Gold Rainbow Foil
Dark Forest original night-sky artwork on our heaviest black art card, with the same gold rainbow foil. The deck people write to us about most, and the one that photographs best under a lamp. $34.99 for the deck and its printed guidebook; up to $55.99 for the set with the box, the reading cloth and the velvet bag.
Holographic Crystal Foil Tarot Cards — 1909 Classic Art
A full diffraction layer across the whole card face, so colour moves across the spread as you lean over it. The strongest visual effect we print, over the 1909 illustrations. $34.99 for the deck and its printed guidebook; up to $59.99 for the set with the box, the reading cloth and the velvet bag.
What is in every box
Every deck on this page is a full 78-card tarot deck — 22 Major Arcana and four suits of 14 — printed by us, not resold. Every order includes a printed guidebook with the upright and reversed meaning of all 78 cards, so you can read on the first evening without buying a book first. The larger options add a rigid card box, a cotton reading cloth, a velvet bag, or all three; the option list on each deck's own page shows exactly what each one contains before you pay.
How to look after a foiled deck
Keep it out of direct sun — foil is fine, but any printed card fades on a windowsill. Shuffle with a riffle rather than a hard bend; the lamination resists scratches, not creases. If the cards pick up skin oil, a dry cloth is enough. A reading cloth is not sentiment: it stops the card faces meeting a wooden table, and it is the single cheapest thing you can do to keep a foiled deck looking new. Ours are $20.00 in tarot accessories.

Frequently asked questions
Does the gold foil wear off?
Not in normal use. The foil is stamped into the card and then laminated over, so the surface that takes the wear is the lamination, not the foil. The first thing to show age on any deck, ours included, is the card edge.
Is a foil deck a bad first deck?
No, and one of these is our most common first deck: the Gold Rainbow Foil uses the 1909 illustrations, which is what every beginner book and online guide teaches from. The foil is on the linework, so it does not get in the way of reading the symbols. More options in tarot decks for beginners.
Can I photograph a foiled deck?
Yes, and badly, by accident — foil reads as a white blow-out under a direct flash. Light it from the side with a window or a lamp and tilt the card slightly; that is when the rainbow appears on camera as it does in the hand.
How much does a gold foil tarot deck cost here?
From $34.99 for the deck and its printed guidebook, up to $59.99 for the complete set with the rigid box, the cotton reading cloth and the velvet bag. The option list on each deck page prices every combination.
Do you sell foil decks wholesale?
Yes — foiling is one of the finishes we run for other brands as well as for ourselves. Trade terms and minimums are on wholesale and custom printing.
