Gold foil tarot cards that change colour in the light
Tilt a Moonlight card under a lamp and the gold moves: rose, green, violet, back to gold. These gold foil tarot cards are 78 cards of fine celestial line art (suns, moons, moths, a running stag) stamped in rainbow foil on thick black card. An anti-scratch lamination protects the surface, so the deck can be shuffled every night. A printed guide covers every card upright and reversed, and the full tarot course arrives in your language after you order.
It is a holographic gold foil that shows itself slowly. Turn the deck in your hands and the colour travels across each card. Under bright overhead light the foil can glare, so a warm lamp or a window at an angle shows it best.
A celestial tarot deck in modern line art
Moonlight is a black and gold tarot deck drawn like a night sky: thin gold lines, lots of dark space, and a symbolic Minor Arcana instead of picture scenes. The card back is our own design, a row of moon phases. The deck follows the standard 78-card structure (22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana), so the meanings in any tarot book or app apply. This is a physical Dark Forest Tarot deck, not an app.
Prefer full picture scenes on every card? See the Gold Sun deck, the same gold foil with scene-style art.
Thick cards, laminated
The cards are black 350 gsm card with an anti-scratch lamination. They hold their shape in a fan and shuffle well once the new laminate settles; a little stickiness at first is normal and fades after a few shuffles. Card size is 2.75″ × 4.75″ (7 × 12 cm), the standard tarot size.
What customers say
This gorgeous tarot deck has 57 reviews with an average of 4.96. Buyers call it “stunning” and say “the pictures don't do it justice.” One wrote, “I really adore the holographic look the gold has.” Another noticed the build: “thick with a protective coating to protect from scratches.” Across the shop we have 20,000+ positive reviews on Etsy, rated 4.9.

How Moonlight compares with a standard deck
| Feature | Moonlight Tarot | Standard mass-market deck |
|---|---|---|
| Artwork | Gold rainbow foil on black card; the gold shifts colour in the light | Flat print, no foil |
| Card stock | Black 350 gsm card | Typically 250–300 gsm |
| Surface | Anti-scratch lamination, wipe-clean surface | Often unlaminated |
| Guidance | Printed guide to all 78 cards + full tarot course in your language | Small leaflet |
| Minor Arcana | Symbolic, no scenes | Often a scene on every card |
| Under bright light | The foil can glare; warm or angled light is best | No foil, so no glare |
Do gold foil tarot cards like these really change colour?
Yes. Moonlight is a gold foil tarot deck whose gold rainbow foil shifts as you tilt the card: rose, green, violet, then back to gold. The effect is strongest in warm lamp light or window light at an angle. Buyers say the pictures don't do it justice.
What does the art look like? Are there scenes on every card?
No. Moonlight is modern celestial line art in gold on black: suns, moons, moths and a running stag, with a symbolic Minor Arcana instead of picture scenes. The card back is our own design, a row of moon phases. If you want full picture scenes in the same gold foil, choose our Gold Sun deck instead.
Is Moonlight a good first tarot deck?
It comes with everything you need to start: a printed guidebook to all 78 cards and a full tarot course in your language. Because the Minor Arcana are symbolic rather than scenic, they take a little more learning than a deck with a picture on every card. If you want to learn from scenes, our borderless Light Edition is the better first deck, and Moonlight makes a beautiful second one.
What is in each set, and which one makes a good gift?
Every set has the 78-card deck, the printed guidebook and a card box. Deck + Velvet Bag adds a velvet bag, Deck + Wooden Box adds a wooden box, and the Gift Set has the deck, guidebook, wooden box and velvet bag together. The Gift Set arrives ready to give; choose Deck Only if you already have your own storage.
Is the guidebook printed, and is the tarot course in English?
Every deck includes a printed guidebook covering all 78 cards, upright and reversed. After purchase we also send the full tarot course in your language, available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. A free digital guidebook is open to everyone on our site.
How thick are the cards, what size are they, and are they laminated?
The cards are printed on black 350 gsm card, thicker than the 250–300 gsm typical of mass-market decks. Each card has an anti-scratch lamination, and the surface wipes clean. The size is the standard tarot size of 2.75″ × 4.75″ (7 × 12 cm).
Do the cards stick together when they are new?
They can. New laminated cards may feel a little sticky at first, and reviewers say they loosen after a few shuffles. Fan the deck, riffle it gently and shuffle it a few times, and it settles.
Will the foil glare, and how do I look after the deck?
Under bright overhead light the foil can glare; warm or angled light is easiest on the eyes. To look after the deck, store it in its box and shuffle with clean, dry hands. As with any foil deck, handle it with care.
