Tarot Deck Printing: Batch Production vs Print on Demand
If you are comparing batch printing with print-on-demand tarot cards, first separate two decisions: how many decks are made at a time, and who sends each customer their order. A printer can make a deck after you order without providing single-copy production or an automatic connection to your shop.
Dark Forest's current own-artwork service produces a paid print run after you approve the exact artwork. New printing supports 12–192 decks per design in multiples of 12, with a separate limit of 200 newly printed decks across one online order. This is a batch-production route. It is not a one-copy service, and the current B2B terms do not offer dropshipping.
Four services worth distinguishing
The words “made to order” and “POD” alone do not tell you the minimum order, whether anyone holds inventory, or how a customer's address reaches a fulfilment service. Use these practical definitions when comparing offers.
Stock replenishment
- The question it answers
- Can I buy more of an existing printed edition?
- Production trigger
- The goods have already been printed.
- Your next task
- Plan resale and customer shipments.
- At Dark Forest
- Available for the catalogue's current stock, subject to edition rules and availability.
Batch after order
- The question it answers
- Can I order a production run of this deck?
- Production trigger
- The agreed order and artwork approval.
- Your next task
- Plan where the batch goes and how it reaches customers.
- At Dark Forest
- New printing: 12–192 per design, in multiples of 12; 200 newly printed decks maximum per online order.
Single-copy production
- The question it answers
- Can I order one complete deck?
- Production trigger
- A one-copy print order, if the provider offers it.
- Your next task
- Confirm configuration, delivery and any later production plan.
- At Dark Forest
- Not offered by the current new-printing route.
Automated fulfilment
- The question it answers
- Can a service send each customer's order for me?
- Production trigger
- Depends on whether the service uses stock or prints after a sale.
- Your next task
- Verify the order connection, parcel contents and after-sales responsibilities.
- At Dark Forest
- Dropshipping is not offered under the current B2B terms.
These descriptions distinguish production from delivery to your customers. A provider may combine services; verify each part of its offer separately.
Dark Forest's wholesale catalogue offers existing stock and Made to Order editions, while the own-artwork route is for an original print run. Stock and new-production quantities follow different rules. Existing stock cards cannot be changed; replacement packaging can be supplied separately where agreed under the order terms.
Compare costs for the same finished deck
A useful comparison starts with matching contents. Record the card count and size, printed back, material and finish, packaging and any booklet. Then check the number of decks covered by the quote and the artwork preparation it includes.
Compare the full amount you would pay for the order, including delivery and the taxes or other charges that have been confirmed. Keep any recipient-paid charges visible separately. A headline per-deck figure is not enough if one offer includes packaging and another does not.
For a batch you will send to customers yourself, add your own storage, packing and onward-shipping costs to your plan. For a fulfilment offer, check the charges for each individual order and any separate account, storage or handling fees. These are questions to put to the provider, not charges presumed to exist in every service.
Neither production label guarantees the lower total cost. Use current quotes for the same specification and the way you actually expect to deliver the decks. Dark Forest's configurator lets you review a selected print run; the order and payment terms explain the scope of the confirmed total.

Choose around what you need to do next
You need one physical copy before considering a run. Look for a confirmed one-copy or sample option and check what it will demonstrate. A sample is a different service from a digital proof. Dark Forest's current terms say that sample purchasing is not enabled, so do not treat it as an available one-copy route.
You want a batch to launch your original deck. Compare a specified production run with your budget, storage space and plan for sending orders. Dark Forest's own-artwork route is relevant when its supported quantities and configuration suit that plan. A smaller supported run limits the number of copies you commit to; it does not establish that those copies will sell.
You want every shop sale handled automatically. Start by verifying the fulfilment service and any required shop connection. An order of printed decks does not answer that need on its own. Dark Forest's current B2B offer should not be selected on the assumption that it will dropship tarot cards for you.
You want to restock tarot decks for a retail shop. Use the catalogue and check whether each edition is ready stock or needs new production. If your goal is branding on eligible existing artwork, use Our design, your brand and confirm the changes available for the selected stock or new-printing route.
What ordering a batch from Dark Forest involves
Choose the print specification, quantity and optional components in the current configurator. Orders are paid in full through Shopify, and artwork can follow payment. We contact you to confirm the exact files and any preparation help; production starts only after your approval.
Prepare files using the current artwork guide and templates. Review the full digital proof, including fronts, backs, sequence, packaging and any booklet. A proof is not a physical sample, and approving artwork is a separate step from completing payment.
Use the schedule confirmed for the order when planning when the batch will reach you. Keep your own customer packing and dispatch plan separate from that production-and-delivery estimate.
If you are comparing an automated fulfilment offer
Ask the provider to show how an individual order reaches its system, what the customer receives and who is responsible if the parcel is delayed, damaged or returned. Confirm whose branding appears on the packaging and whether every destination you intend to serve is supported. These details decide whether the service fits your shop; the ability to print tarot cards alone cannot settle them.
If you are ready for a supported batch of your original artwork, configure your tarot print run.
