Learn Tarot Without Memorizing a Book
The English Learning Tarot Deck is a complete 78-card tarot deck where every card explains itself. Pamela Colman Smith's classic 1909 artwork sits at the center of each card, and around it you read the card's name, one sentence with its core meaning, four upright keywords, four reversed keywords and a question to ask about your own situation. In the middle of a reading you never have to look anything up: the meaning is in your hand the moment you turn the card over.
A Full PDF Learning Guide Is Included in the Price
Every deck comes with our complete digital guidebook: the Dark Forest tarot course, a PDF learning guide in English. We e-mail your personal download link right after purchase. There is no printed booklet in the box, and that is on purpose: a PDF is searchable, it zooms in to any size, it opens on your phone, and you can print just the pages you want. Our free online guide to all 78 cards is also open to everyone.
Made for Complete Beginners
Many tarot decks arrive with a thin booklet or no words at all, and the first week turns into flipping pages instead of reading cards. This deck is built for the opposite: you can draw a card on day one, read what it says and answer the question at the bottom. It also works as a study deck, for teaching a friend, or as a gift for someone curious about tarot.
Quality You Can Feel
Every card is printed on 300 gsm card stock with a matte protective lamination that keeps the surface free of glare. The cards are the standard 2.75 x 4.72 in (7 x 12 cm) tarot size, and the deck comes in a soft-touch box with a velvety matte finish.

Everything You Need Is on the Card
Every card follows the same layout, so after a few readings you know exactly where to look:
- At the top: the arcana and number, then the card's name in large letters
- Under the name: one sentence with the card's core meaning
- Left of the picture (Upright): four keywords for the upright card
- Right of the picture (Reversed): four keywords for the reversed card
- At the bottom (In Your Question): one question that links the card to what you asked
An Example: The Lovers
- Core meaning: “Authentic connection grows from a choice that aligns attraction with your values.”
- Upright: union, choice, attraction, aligned values
- Reversed: misalignment, discord, one-sided bond, conflicting values
- In your question: “Which choice best reflects what matters to you?”
How to Read With It
Ask your question, draw a card and lay it on the table. Read the sentence under the name first. Then look at the side that matches how the card landed: the left column if it is upright, the right column if it is reversed. Finish with the question at the bottom and answer it for your own situation. The more often you read the text, the sooner you will recognize each card by its picture alone.

Meanings on the Card or in a Guidebook?
| Feature | This Learning Deck | Classic Deck With a Guidebook |
|---|---|---|
| Where the meanings are | Printed on every card | In a separate guidebook |
| During a reading | Glance at the card | Look each card up in the guidebook |
| Reversed meanings | Four keywords on every card | Depends on the guidebook |
| A question for your situation | One on every card | Not on the card |
| Card faces | The 1909 picture framed by text | Usually the picture and a title only |
| Best for | Learning the 78 cards and reading from day one | Readers who already know the meanings or prefer clean card faces |
What is the best tarot deck for a complete beginner?
A learning deck, because the meaning is printed on the card itself. You read the card in front of you instead of memorizing 78 meanings or searching a book mid-reading. This deck adds upright and reversed keywords and a question on every card, plus a full PDF learning guide.
Is it okay to read tarot with meanings printed on the cards?
Yes. Reading with the meanings in front of you is how most people start, and the printed text fades into the background as you learn the pictures. Many readers keep using a learning deck long after they could read without it.
Is a guidebook included?
Yes, as a PDF. Every deck comes with a full PDF learning guide (the Dark Forest tarot course), printable at home, in addition to the meanings printed on each card. We e-mail your personal download link after purchase, and our free online guide covers all 78 cards. There is no printed booklet in the box.
Why is there no printed booklet?
A booklet is small print you cannot search or enlarge. The PDF learning guide is searchable, zooms to any size, opens on your phone, and you can print only the pages you need. The meanings you use in the middle of a reading are on the cards, so the guide is for learning, not for looking things up.
I have never read tarot. Is this deck right for me?
Yes. It was made for exactly that. You can start the day it arrives: draw a card, read the sentence under its name, check the upright or reversed keywords, and answer the question at the bottom.
Can I read reversed cards with it?
If you like. Many readers use only upright cards, and schools of tarot differ on how to read reversals. Every card shows four upright keywords on the left and four reversed keywords on the right, so you can choose either way.
Which tarot system does it follow?
The classic system taught in most beginner tarot books and courses, with Pamela Colman Smith's 1909 artwork: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles).
Is it a good gift for someone curious about tarot?
Yes. It needs no experience, the full PDF guide arrives by e-mail, and the soft-touch box looks good without extra wrapping. For a present, the Gift Set adds a wooden box and a red velvet bag.
